Glanbrennig
Redevelopment of outbuildings and barn to form swimming pool complex for existing guesthouse and campsite.
The design links three buildings on a sloping site; containing pool, changing facilities and sauna with a south facing glazed corridor formed by extending the portal frame beyond the original barn wall. This optimises passive solar gain through a thermal buffer space incorporating the wheelchair access ramp from changing rooms to pool deck level. The original barn wall was partly reconstructed within the laminated timber portals to increase thermal storage from heat gains in the corridor. Clerestory windows above this wall take preheated ventilation air to the pool area, augmenting a traditional humidity and heating control system contained in a new plant room in a form similar to a traditional external chimney.
