Design for family dwelling, to include 5 Bedrooms & 2 Living rooms. A principal organisational feature of the design is the central fireplace back to back with kitchen/ dining recess to accommodate a solid fuel stove, the staircase rising over the arched recess alongside the living room fireplace. Ground floor rooms are oriented to maximise solar gains and reduce heat loss, and a connecting passage between living and dining room gives a choice of circulation through the ground floor without returning to a central hallway. From the arrival point on the 1 st floor, the 2 nd staircase is offset to avoid congestion on a narrow landing, winding through 180 o to arrive centrally on the 2 nd floor. Attic trusses provide the further storey within the roofspace accommodating the need for 2 separate living areas and study bedrooms.A slate clad dormer set back from the external wall face accommodates the 2 nd staircase without increasing either the depth of the plan or reducing the available space for the rear hallway. The eaves are raised slightly higher at the front elevation, the dormer window providing necessary headroom for the final straight flight, and natural lighting to the 2 nd floor landing. Roof windows frame views beyond the village to both front and rear, the 2 nd floor living room gable window permits sunset views.
